After greengrocer Mehmet Üsker is murdered, police detective Inspector Menemenci is put on the case. At the same time, detective Vera Gemini is on the lookout for a former foreign legionnaire who, however, has been presumed dead for years. It soon turns out that there must be a connection between the two cases.

The case involves fake documents and political links over generations, as well as family ties going up to the 'pretore', the very old chief of police. Meanwhile the vice-pretore is enchanted by a new, female commissioner, of 'good stock', and allegedly an expert in far eastern methods, albeit little more then feng-shui.
